동물농장 리뷰 - 조지 오웰 Animal Farm - George Orwell

동물농장

- 조지 오웰 

소련에 대한 풍자라고 하더니, 시작부터 아주 제대로 된 정치풍자로 시작된다.

동물들은 노동자, 인간은 정치권력자.

초반부이지만 회사원의 입장으로 읽으니 벌써부터 재미있다.

과연 어떻게 마무리가 될지 굉장히 기대되는 책이다.

4월5일

2부를 읽었는데 급작스럽게 인간들을 내쫓은 봉기가 바로 나올 줄은 몰랐다.

보통 이런 경우에는 더 큰 에피소드가 뒤에 있다는 의미일 것이다.

인간들이 사라진 상황에서 동물들의 환희와 기쁨도 잠시 점점 삐걱대는 동물들의 모습에서 결국은 권력이 생성되며 계층이 형성될 것만 같다.

그리고 2부 마지막 부분의 암소의 우유가 쥐도새도 모르게 사라진 것에서 결국 사유재산이 형성되며 그 과정에서 부패가 일어나는 것이 아닌지 생각하게 된다.

4월6일

역시 이렇게 될 줄 알았다.

누군가가 나타나서 결국 독재자의 자리를 선점할거라 어렴풋이 예상했다. 

아이러니하게도 작가가 독재자로써 설정한 돼지의 이름이 나폴레옹이라는 것은 작가 나름대로의 시대적 상황에 대처하기 위함이 아닐지 생각한다.

소련 시대에의 스탈린이라는 이름보다는 이미 과거의 유령인 나폴레옹이라는 이름이 더 적절했을 것이다.

단지, 이해가 가지 않는 점은 몰리라는 말 캐릭터다.

인간의 물건과 인간의 손길을 좋아하는 몰리는 어떤 상징성을 지니는지 아직까진 모르겠다.

4월10일

점점 내용이 북한화가 되어간다.

나폴레옹은 북한의 김일성처럼 위대한 동지라는 칭호로 불리게 되고 점점 스스로 고립된 생활을 하게 된다.

1950년에 세상을 떠난 작가의 글이 전쟁을 일으킨 나라의 미래를 정확히 그리고 있다는 것이 참 아이러니하다.

물론 작가는 소련을 풍자한 것이겠지만 정작 소련은 해체되고 자립적으로 공산주의를 계승하겠다는 엉뚱한 동방의 나라가 이 책을 그대로 답습하고 있다.

정말로 현실은 허구를 따라가지 못하나보다.

They say it's a satire about the Soviet Union, but it starts off with a very accurate political satire from the beginning.

The animals represent the working class, while humans represent the political elites.

Even in the early stages, as I read it from the perspective of an office worker, it's already intriguing.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how it will unfold and conclude.

April 5th

I read Part 2, and I didn't expect the sudden uprising where the animals overthrow the humans.

Usually, in such cases, it implies that there are bigger episodes to come.

In the absence of humans, the initial joy and happiness of the animals gradually turn into a situation where power is created and hierarchies are formed.

And with the disappearance of the milk that the cows produce, as mentioned in the last part of Part 2, it seems that private property is forming and corruption is happening in the process.

April 6th

As I suspected, it turned out like this.

I vaguely expected that someone would appear and eventually seize the position of dictator.

Ironically, the fact that the pig, whom the author set as the dictator, is named Napoleon, might be the author's way of dealing with the contemporary situation.

Instead of using the name of Stalin from the Soviet era, the name Napoleon, which represents a ghost from the past, would have been more appropriate.

The only thing I don't understand is the character Molly.

I still don't know what symbolism Molly, who likes human possessions and human touch, holds.

April 10th

The story is gradually becoming like North Korea.

Napoleon is called a great comrade, just like Kim Il-sung in North Korea, and he ends up living a more isolated life.

It's ironic that the writings of the author, who passed away in 1950, accurately depict the future of the country that caused the war.

Of course, the author intended to satirize the Soviet Union, but ironically, it is this strange country in the Far East that continues to follow this book as if imitating it, even though the Soviet Union has collapsed and pursued communism independently.

It seems that reality cannot keep up with fiction after all.
